Watford Rotary Arranges Young Chef Competition

A Busy Weekend For Watford Rotary. Last Saturday saw Watford Rotary run their annual Young Chef competition at the West Herts Catering College.

Under the watchful eyes of the head of the catering school, Andy Wakeford and his team Pedro Carmichael and Graham Rusling, entrants from 4 schools, Kings Langley, Queens, Bushey Mead and St Clements Danes plied their craft in what Andy said was to a very high standard. Judging was based on a number of factors including, a healthy choice of dishes, meals served on time and at the right temperature, presentation, neatness and organisation of the work area, hygiene and taste.

The winner was Samir Pabari whose menu was Karachi Lamb, Bombay potatoes, carrot and apple pickles with butter masala gravy, mint and coriander oil, followed by jeera pudding for desert. The winner was presented with a trophy plus was enrolled into the Young Chefs Academy starting January.

Runner Up was Jacob Levy with a salmon rillette followed by toasted marshmellow with chocolate ganashe. Jacob won a meal for 4 at the Prince of Bengal restaurant, Watford.

In third place was Mia Harris who did a Teriyaki Salmon with Wholemeal rice and broccoli followed by a gooey Chocolate Brownie with Chantilly cream. Maya won a work experience day at Subway, Watford.

All entrants received a certificate, a goody bag and of course the fantastic experience of working under the watchful eyes of the expert tutors from West Herts Catering College.
