🟣 End Polio Now — Watford Rotary’s Commitment to a Polio-Free World
For over 35 years, Rotary has been at the forefront of the global fight to end polio — a devastating disease that once paralyzed hundreds of thousands of children every year. Through the End Polio Now campaign, Rotary members around the world have helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries, reducing polio cases by over 99.9% since the first vaccination drive in 1985.
🌍 Watford Rotary’s Local Action for a Global Cause
Watford Rotary is proud to play its part in this historic effort. Each year, we:
Raise awareness about the importance of immunization and Rotary’s global impact through community events and social media.
Fundraise to support vital vaccination campaigns in high-risk regions. Every £1 we raise is tripled by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, multiplying our impact.
Engage the community through activities like Purple4Polio, where planting purple crocuses symbolizes the purple mark given to children after receiving the polio vaccine.
💜 Purple4Polio in Watford
This autumn, we are joining hands with Green Hearts of Watford and St Mary’s Church to plant thousands of crocus corms in celebration of World Polio Day (24th October). The sea of purple blooms will serve as a vivid reminder that together, we can make polio history.
