A Memorable Canal Boat Trip with Members and Guests

Watford Rotary Club members and guests came together for a relaxing and enjoyable canal boat trip, making the most of the summer weather and great company. The outing, which took place along a scenic stretch of the Grand Union Canal, offered a chance for fellowship, fresh air, and fun — all central to Rotary’s values of community and connection.

Boarding the narrowboat at a local marina, the group spent the day cruising through picturesque countryside, passing locks, historic bridges, and leafy towpaths. Along the way, there was plenty of time to chat, share stories, and enjoy refreshments on board.

A Day of Fellowship and Fun

The event brought together long-time members, newer recruits, and several invited guests — creating a lively mix of conversation and laughter. For many, it was a welcome opportunity to step away from daily routines and simply enjoy being together in a relaxed setting.

The organizer of the event Ann Grierson said:

“It’s events like this that remind us how important fellowship is to Rotary. We work hard to serve our community, but it’s just as important to take time to connect with each other and enjoy what Rotary has to offer.”

The canal trip is one of several social events organised by Watford Rotary throughout the year. These moments of connection help to build a strong, engaged club where members feel valued and supported — while also giving potential new members a glimpse into the friendly spirit of Rotary life.

As the boat moored at the end of the day, many on board commented on how uplifting and refreshing the outing had been. Some even suggested making it an annual tradition.
